Vito Santarsieri, MD
Division Director, Gastroenterology
Dr. Vito Santarsieri has more than 20 years of experience in sub-specialized anatomic pathology, cytopathology and surgical pathology. A fellowship trained pathologist who has read more than 1.2 million GI cases, he has held strategic roles at a number of prestigious national laboratories.
As the Executive Medical Director at Lab Corp/DIANON Systems, Dr. Santarsieri was an innovator of GI pathology. He built the DIANON GI pathology program into an industry leader, rising from Staff Pathologist to Executive Medical Director. During his tenure, he developed and implemented numerous measures that earned accolades for increasing the accuracy and effectiveness of his team.
Prior to assuming the role of Division Director of Gastroenterology at LIPath, Dr. Santarsieri was the Director of GI Pathology at Bostwick Laboratories (Gastrocor) and was a Senior Pathologist at CBLPath, Inc. At these full-service labs, he headed the team responsible for the diagnosis and treatment of prostate and gastrointestinal cancer, cytology and urological diseases. His leadership in anatomic pathology set industry standards that continue today.
Dr. Santarsieri is board certified in anatomic pathology and cytopathology. He received his M.D. from the University “La Sapienza” in Rome. After serving as a resident and chief resident at North Shore University Center in New York, he was a fellow of Oncologic Pathology at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center and cytology fellow at Montefiore Medical Center under the direction of the late Dr. Leopold Koss. He was the Assistant Professor of Pathology at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in the Bronx before his tenure at DIANON.
As a leader in the pathology field, Dr. Santarsieri will be leading the Gastroenterology Pathology Suite at LIPath, a sub-specialized anatomic pathology laboratory with a suite of innovative testing and technology services. In this role, Dr. Santarsieri will be in charge of building the sub-specialized pathology team and leading LIPath into the next step in laboratory excellence.
